new and improved

Some of you may have noticed the spate of new links off to the side. There have been some changes around here in the last few days. Let’s run down the list.

The Overworked and Underpaid (OW/UP) blog is where Sam has been doing all of her writing lately. I *should* be adding things, but I’m lazy, and I haven’t. That will change soon.

Chuhi is as it always has been, the place for our stories from Japan. Since we’ve been home three months, those are nearly done with, but we do have a few tales (and pictures) left up our sleeves. Keep an eye out in the next week or so.

The Onymous Guy 2.0 is the newest version of my dad’s blog, which had been over at blogger. Blogger is one of the many parts of the internets blocked either wholly or partially by the Great Firewall of China, so now that daddy is in Beijing, a move was in order.

Jim in China is self-explanatory. Just as we had our place for stories from Japan, the professor now has his place for stories from China.

Lastly, オレゴンから愛 (Oregon kara ai) is an as-yet-unlaunched effort of mine and Sam’s to keep in touch with our friends in Japan. Hopefully some day we’ll actually write something there, because it’s about the only way I’ll be able to keep up with my Japanese.

That’s about all for now. Lots of fun things going on, aren’t there?

We’re home in Oregon, but we still have a few Japan stories to tell, so Chuhi isn’t quite over with yet. The remaining stories will largely have to wait until after May 20th, however, when our crate from Japan is expected to arrive (the crate has our computer tower - and all the pictures contained therein). The crate had to go from Tomisato to the Port of Kobe on the other side of Japan. From there it’s going to Long Beach, and then by rail up to Portland. Sounds fun, doesn’t it?

Since we are home, however, we’ve started writing new and exciting things in the Overworked and Underpaid Blog, documenting our fun-filled search for work. There’s not much there yet, but keep an eye on it.

Sooner or later I may even update the short bios on the side of the home page. Then all the links will work. It will be amazing!

…except for the bit with the baseball bat (usually).

I admit, it’s hard to pin down exactly why I like Obama, but every time I hear the man speak I like him a little more. Evidently the guy from Black Eyed Peas was thinking the same thing.

comments

This site is built on WordPress, an open-source blogging solution. It’s a little different than Blogger, and I’m only part way through the learning curve. From what I can tell at this point, the first time you comment anywhere, the comment will be held in a moderation queue until either Sam or I approve it. Subsequent comments should go through automatically, assuming you use the same name and email address. Also, for our purposes here, each blog on this site is treated as a seperate entity (i.e. the process repeats itself the first time you post on Chuhi, the first time you post on OW/UP, and the front page). Hope this takes care of any confusion.

Slowly but surely

When we had to lock the old blog, it was always planned as a temporary measure. So now, two months later, here we are. I’d like to say it was our winter vacation project, but really it was something we threw together in the last 48 hours before going back to work. As such, we will be tweaking and adjusting on an ongoing basis for the foreseeable future. For the time being, new posts will continue to go up on Chuhi (now located in that helpful bar on your left). The OW/UP blog will start to record our adventures in job seeking (and beyond) as soon as we get around to actually job seeking. This space will probably be reserved for general housekeeping announcements. Enjoy.

Welcome!

Greg is going to write the purpose of this website here. Maybe.
